We’re delighted to introduce you to the speakers who will be joining us for the National Neonatal Surgical Interest Group’s (NNSIG) MDT Education Day on 3rd November. The event will mark the launch of a brand new holistic framework for best practice for the nutrition and feeding management of the surgical neonate.
A number of exciting presentations will take place throughout the day based around key aspects of neonatal surgical, nutritional care that is recommend by the whole MDT involved in care. Take a look below to find out more about each of our speakers:
Hannah Wells
Neonatal Surgical Nurse Specialist
Southampton
Hannah Wells works on the Neonatal unit in Southampton as part of a team of Neonatal Surgical Nurse Specialists. She provides specialist care for the infants and their families utilising her many years of neonatal surgical experience. In her spare time she enjoys running, cooking and travelling.
Susie Regan
Neonatal Surgical Nutrition CNS
Great Ormond Street Hospital
I am a Surgical Neonatal Nutriton CNS, and have worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital for 15 years. Since qualifying I have worked as a SNAPS (Specialist Neonatal & Peadiatric Surgery) nurse and became a Surgical CNS 8 years ago, for the past 2 years I have helped set up and run the Surgical Neonatal Nutriton Outreach service and work closely along side the whole MDT.
George Bethell
NIHR doctoral Fellow
Southampton
George is a NIHR doctoral fellow in Southampton and is currently undertaking a PhD titled “Improving understanding of indications for and timing of surgery in infants with Necrotising Enterocolitis”. He is a honorary specialty registrar in paediatric surgery at Southampton Children’s hospital and is the current president of the Paediatric Surgical Trainees Research Network (PSTRN). His research interests include NEC, duodenal atresia and paediatric appendicitis.
Chris Forster
Neonatal Consultant
Leeds
I currently work as a Neonatal Consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and have a specialist interest in neonatal nutrition and metabolic bone disease. After being trained in Nottingham and refined in Melbourne, I returned to the UK to take up a post in Leeds. I have established a Nutritional Support Team within the neonatal service, along with introducing a standardised PN formulation which has changed the way we prescribe and deliver nutrition to our smallest babies.
Kelly Watson
NHS Dietician
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Kelly has worked as an NHS Dietitian for 24 years in tertiary paediatric centres. Her main area of interest is post-operative feeding and weaning parenteral nutrition. She’s part of the team that established the surgical neonatal outreach group at Great Ormond Street Hospital and she works closely with surgical CNS team.
Lynette Forsythe
Dietitian
Manchester
I have worked for over 20 years at Manchester children’s hospital covering a wide range of specialties with many years in paediatric intestinal failure. I now work in neonates in a busy level 3 surgical neonatal unit and I’m the lead dietitian for the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. I have a passion for improving the feeding outcomes with surgical neonates
