These standards set out the entry and practice learning requirements, curriculum, length of programme, methods of assessment and the level of award for NMC-approved nursing programmes. They have been designed so that students can get the most out of their education and learn the skills they need to become safe, effective and kind professionals.

Our updated standards for pre-registration nursing programmes were approved by our Council at its meeting on 25 January 2023 and can now be implemented by Approved education institutions (AEIs).

These standards set out the entry and practice learning requirements, curriculum, length of programme, methods of assessment and the level of award for NMC-approved nursing programmes. Our updated standards for pre-registration nursing programmes were approved by our Council at its meeting on 25 January 2023 and can now be implemented by Approved education institutions (AEIs).

Why our standards are important

Our education and training standards help nursing, midwifery and nursing associate students achieve the NMC standards of proficiency and programme outcomes.

All nursing, midwifery and nursing associate professionals must practise in line with the requirements of the Code, the professional standards of practice and behaviour that nurses, midwives and nursing associates are expected to uphold.

The standards for education and training includes the Standards framework for nursing and midwifery education, Standards for student supervision and assessment, and programme standards specific to each approved programme.

Our standards for education and training are set out in three parts:

We are delighted to tell you; we are now signed up to the UK Government Gift Aid scheme.

This means we can claim back 25p for every pound of your subscription from HMRC – it does not cost you a penny more and this additional income will enable us to support you further with our webinars, conferences, awards, and scholarships. For us to claim Gift Aid on your subscriptions, we need your agreement.

How to help

I want to Gift Aid my subscriptions in the future and those I have paid in the past 4 years to the Neonatal Nurses Association. I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my payments in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

Please notify us if you:

– want to cancel this declaration
– change your name or home address
– no longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gains

If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.”
