When: Monday 15th January 2024, 10am – 4pm.
Where: Royal National Hotel, London

Neonatal care is always a challenging place to be, but never more so than in the last 5 years. Covid, staffing pressures, changes in viability guidance, maternity reviews and high-profile court cases of various kinds are some of the many factors which have put additional pressure on teams and on the managers who support them.
When staff are feeling under threat and pressure they can often find it harder to take care of each other and create an environment that is able to ‘hold’ all the distress of the babies and families that they care for. We recognise that to hold all the other layers of the system, our managers and matrons themselves need to feel held – by each other and by the professional structures that surround them, but sometimes it can feel ‘lonely at the top’.
We are therefore offering this day as a place to:
· Recognise & reflect on the sources of threat and struggle that teams and those that lead them are facing
· Learn about ways to make sense of the impact of this threat, and how to respond with compassionate and sustainable care both for ourselves and each other
· Think together about ways to keep building a leaders community as a longer-term approach to protecting our workforce
The day will be a mix of knowledge building, interactive workshops & reflection facilitated by Dr Ruth Butterworth and Dr Rebecca Chilvers, Consultant Clinical Psychologists who specialise in neonatal care. We will also be looking at how the NNA can continue to develop the support that we offer to leaders.
This is not a day for network staff, but for shop floor nurses in ward manager or matron roles.
The day will be held on Monday 15th January 2024, 10am – 4pm. Places are limited. Attendance is free. Refreshments & lunch will be provided. Travel and accommodation is not covered. Please only book a place if you are sure you are able to attend on the day due to limited spaces available.
